With so many yachts available for charter across the Adriatic, it can be difficult to know which yacht is right for you. We chatted with Captain Marko Kus who let us into the secrets of what makes a great charter yacht, and what makes Predator 108 QUANTUM an ideal choice for a summer Croatia yacht charter.
How did you come to be a yacht captain?
Marko: At the age of 5, I started sailing in the Optimist class, beginning a lifelong love affair with boats and the sea. I started my professional career as a yacht captain when I was 18.

How long have you been captain on board MY QUANTUM?
Marko: This will be my 3rd year on QUANTUM. I’m especially proud of the crew, as we’ve been together for three years and are a solid, high-performing team.
What has been recently updated on MY QUANTUM?
Marko: Since purchasing QUANTUM in 2019, the Owner has invested heavily in its refit and maintenance, with significant updates to the machinery and AV systems, as well as her interior and exterior decor. From her new stabilizers and WIFI to new linens, new upholstery, and a paint job, Predator 108 QUANTUM will be in top shape for the summer season and ready to welcome her guests from April 2021.

How would you characterize your charter crew?
Marko: Above all, they strive to exceed clients’ expectations. Each of them is hard- working individual with a diverse skillset. For example, our chef Edis speaks several languages and has experience working in high-class Croatian restaurants, as well as running a hotel restaurant. Our mechanical engineer, Mislav, is a whizz with machinery and a quick problem solver, plus he enjoys assisting with water toys and has an easy communication with the guests. Our stewardess has a superyacht background and medical training– a fact that was highly appreciated during the 2020 COVID charter season. We are all young, energetic, forthcoming, and relaxed: everyone working with a smile on their face, but in every aspect professional.

What are your top 3 recommendations for an Adriatic yacht charter?
1. My first pick is my favorite island, Vis, which offers secluded bays, interesting towns, the Blue and Green caves, and Stinivia– voted the best beach in Europe! The local gastronomy is superb, and I recommend every guest tries the speciality of Peka. The military tour of Vis is also excellent.
2. One of my favorite towns is Rovinj, the most beloved town in Istria, and one of the most romantic spots in Croatia, with café-bars along the seafront, and the fabulous Michelin-starred restaurant, Monte.

3. Polace on the island of Mljet is a safe bay with crystal clear water located in a national park: a top spot for watersports, cycling, hiking, kayaking, and scuba diving.

What is your favorite beach that you always recommend that guests should visit?
Marko: This is a tough one. For while there are many wonderful beaches in the Adriatic, I’d choose anchoring in the turquoise sea and swimming off the back of the yacht over going to a beach any day! A great place to anchor is off Olib Island in the Zadar archipelago.

Why would you recommend MY QUANTUM to somebody looking to charter?
Marko: QUANTUM is the perfect yacht for a group of 6 to 8 guests who want to island-hop through the Adriatic and make the most of the cruising ground. With an impressive top speed of 33 knots, QUANTUM can easily reach destinations in one week that you would normally need two weeks or more to visit.

With her eye-catching open-plan design and convertible cabin arrangement, she suits different charter group configurations, whether that’s three couples or a family with young kids –and we’ve had great feedback from families over the last 2 seasons. The yacht is also a big hit with groups of friends who love the Jacuzzi, huge sunpad areas, and watertoys.

How do you create the perfect charter experience for your guests?
Marko: Good preparation and in-depth knowledge of the cruising ground are crucial ingredients for any successful yacht charter. We have found that the best charters stem from having a confident, well-trained crew, where the guests can entirely relax and trust that the team will provide the very best experience.

Which toys does MY QUANTUM offer and which are the most popular?
Marko: We carry the ever-popular Kawasaki jet-ski and two Seabobs, and we’ve now added the exciting Radinn jet surf board to our toy chest. We also have a Williams 445 jet tender, a variety of tubes, wakeboards and skis, two paddleboards, and snorkeling equipment.

MY QUANTUM has one unique feature to offer its guests– drone footage. Can you tell us more about that?
Marko: We do carry a drone onboard, and at the client’s request we can create spectacular bird’s-eye photography and video footage of their incredible holiday memories on board QUANTUM.
Finally, what is the best part of your job as a charter captain?
Marko: The best part of my job is that it is also my hobby, and I love it as much as I did when I was sailing on those Optimum dinghies as a five-year-old. With this incredible career I am always meeting interesting people and visiting extraordinary places.
