What to see and where to go while in Rijeka on a yacht charter

Rijeka City

The city is full of historical monuments and it’s worth a visit just to stroll down the Korzo and spend your day sightseeing. When you get tired, simply have a seat in one of the numerous cafes and restaurants and have a drink or grab a delicious bite. The city switched ownership between six countries and the influence of all of them is felt in its culture, cuisine, and architecture

Trsat castle looms over the city and offers some wonderful vistas that are sure to stay with you long after you’ve left Rijeka. Another castle worth visiting is Grobnik, and it’s one of the best-preserved fortifications in the region. Today it’s an art gallery and an ethnographic museum.

If you plan ahead, you might even be able to book tickets for the local opera or check out if local museums are having exhibits that you’re interested in. So do your best to make a plan when chartering a yacht to Rijeka.

Opatija

This is one of the most luxurious seaside resorts in the world. Opatija has been drawing in high society (including royalty) for over a century. While most Croatian resorts had tourism infrastructure added on later, Opatija has been built as a luxury resort from the ground up. It was meant to entertain royalty, nobility, and other well-to-do people, after all; and nothing short of the best would do. Villa Angiolina was the first luxurious residence in Opatija, and it featured an exotic garden and a menagerie. In its time it housed many influential guests - now, it’s a park site and a museum of tourism.

The classical and neo-classical architecture of villas and houses really underscores the quiet elegance of the resort city. In addition, Opatija is home to some excellent restaurants and has become a true gastronomical center of Croatia.

Visitors will enjoy the Lungomare seaside walkway, as it offers stunning vistas that are difficult to match anywhere else in the country.

Krk island

Krk is also known as “the golden island” due to its combination of mild Mediterranean climate, beautiful nature, diverse cultural sites, and favorable geographical position. Located just 30 km from Rijeka, Krk is Croatia’s largest island. You can get there either by boat or via a high-altitude bridge coming from the Rijeka motorway; it depends on where you want to dock your yacht.

Krk is probably best known for its beaches, and anyone who wants to spend some relaxing days in the sun will love this destination. While the most popular beaches are usually crowded, you can approach some of the more secluded ones with your yacht and enjoy the privacy while you sunbathe, swim, or party.

Cres-Lošinj archipelago

The islands of Cres and Lošinj form a Cres-Lošinj archipelago, and both are very welcoming tourist destinations. Cres is the larger of the two and provides excellent sightseeing opportunities in Cres Town - it’s the cultural and economic center of the island and it traces its history back to the time of the Roman Empire. It boasts several churches and other edifices that date back to the early 15th century.

Lošinj is the smaller and livelier island and the town of Veli Lošinj has a long tradition of tourism. Due to its pleasant climate and healthy air, it was declared a climatic health resort at the end of the 19th century. The western coast is a natural dolphin habitat and around 120 dolphins frequent this area - visiting it is a must for every marine life lover.

Rab island

Rab is located between the islands of Krk and Pag, very close to the mainland. The biggest population center is Rab city that’s encircled by ancient walls. Like most islands in the region, Rab is dotted with churches and vacation villas; the town itself has no less than four church bell towers.

The cuisine is excellent, and you can find many delightful restaurants tucked into city walls. Close to Rab’s main square, you can even find a restaurant in a 200-year-old palace. This is a truly exquisite experience, as you can dine on high-quality food while overlooking the Rab harbor.

What’s the best time to go on a yacht charter in Rijeka?

While Kvarner bay is fairly sunny and warm for most of the year, it does get cold from October to March. The best time to charter a yacht in Rijeka is probably from May to September, as the weather is much nicer and there are fewer rainy days during the period.

The summer months are also the time when most cultural events take place like Rijeka’s Summer Nights Festival and Fiumanka regatta.

The Summer Night’s Festival starts at the end of June and lasts until the second half of July, and it features a diverse array of cultural and artistic activities like theater, music, and dance shows.
